Western Ghats

Western Ghats

Some places on the planet have a large number of ‘endemic’ species or species that exist only at a specific site. These rare areas are called ‘Biodiversity Hotspots’ and there are only 25 in the whole world! India is home to 3 such hotspots, namely the Western Ghats, Eastern Himalayas and Indo-Burma Region. 6,000 plant species, 450 bird species, 260 reptiles, 175 amphibians and 140 mammalian species are harboured in the Western Ghats, where this garden is situated. This section is a tribute to our rich natural heritage.
